How it works

High 5 Surf: Your Surf Experience

We minimize the complexity of learning to surf.

Your Surf Journey Starts Online: Before hitting the waves, you’ll receive a 2.75-hour e-lesson (video lesson) covering surf safety, winter surf safety, forecasting, etiquette, wetsuit changing hacks, positioning, paddling, pop-ups, stance, shuffling, cross stepping, dismounting, wipeouts, wave selection, board management, wave negotiation/navigation, and more. This ensures you’re ready to make the most of your time in the water and at the beach.
Premium Gear & Comfort: On the day of your session, we provide all the equipment— hooded wetsuits, boots, mittens, board, leash, helmet, and life jacket (if you’d like them) — plus individual heated changing tents for comfort.
Independent Surfing with Personalized Video Coaching: Instead of a traditional in-water coach, you'll put your new skills into action on your own, implementing what you learned in the e-lesson. A Surf Guide will be present, providing equipment and the heated changing tent. They will film many of your rides, wipeouts, takeoffs, paddle-ins, wave selection and more. The Surf Guide will take some photos for you to remember and share your experience with the world. The surf guide does not enter the water and instead focuses on filming your surfing.
Personalized Video Coaching + Your Surf Clips to Keep: Within 3 days after your session, you’ll receive personalized coaching based on your video clips (≈15 minutes of recorded analysis/coaching), helping you refine your technique and progress. Plus, all your surf footage AND recorded analysis/coaching is yours to keep—perfect for reliving the experience, learning from your rides, takeoffs, footwork, wipeouts, etc, and sharing epic moments with friends and family on social media.

To ensure that your surf lesson takes place in the best possible conditions, payment is typically required 3 days in advance. This timing allows us to confirm that the waves will be suitable before finalizing your booking. Since wave conditions can be unpredictable, we avoid accepting payment too far in advance to prevent scheduling issues. This way, you can be confident that when you pay, we’re set for a great session! You’ll receive your e-lesson access the same day you pay.

*All bookings are non-refundable; however, we understand that both plans and weather conditions can change. If you need to reschedule, we’re happy to accommodate you, subject to availability. While refunds are not available at the client’s request, we reserve the right to issue a refund at our sole discretion.

At High 5 Surf, we rent top-quality surf gear built for Lake Michigan. Whether you’re chasing winter swell or enjoying a mellow summer session, we’ve got you covered — literally — with gear that’s safe, warm, and fun.

No half days. No discounts. Just solid and clean gear.

We carry hooded wetsuits in youth sizes up through 3XL, along with boot sizes 6–16 and mittens from XS–2XL — designed for full coverage and warmth in cold Lake Michigan conditions. If you need anything smaller or larger, we’re happy to invest in it and add it to our fleet. Just let us know!

Pickups and deliveries available by appointment in Milwaukee (p/u and drop off are free at our business storage facility. Deliveries are a flat rate of $20 in the Milwaukee area and if you want us to come to you for pick up that’s an additional $20 charge — if someone on our team is available for this service).

Delivery available to other cities — a small trip charge may apply. Contact us for details. All gear is clean, safe, and stored in a climate-controlled unit with 24/7 surveillance.
